...and loading MRF data 37x faster!!!
After a rejuvenating two-week hiatus from LinkedIn, I am back with renewed energy and focus. During this time, I dedicated myself to nurturing personal relationships ๐ค, investing in my well-being ๐โโ๏ธ, and refining the business ๐ง. Life may deliver its fair share of setbacks, but it is essential to keep pushing forward and learning from each experience ๐.
Recently, I faced a considerable challenge that tested my resilience and commitment to my clients ๐ฏ. I had estimated a five-hour timeline for a deliverable, but the task of loading an MRF file into SQL Server took an unexpected 56 hours ๐ฑ. Despite utilizing a high-performance gaming PC, the process was significantly bottlenecked by a USB external hard drive, which was unable to efficiently store the raw MRF files, SQL tempdb files, and SQL database/log files.
As the deadline loomed, I felt the pressure to deliver on my promise โฐ. I spent an entire weekend monitoring the data load, anxiously hoping for its completion. Regrettably, this came at the cost of neglecting my family ๐จโ๐ฉโ๐งโ๐ฆ. Although I managed to meet the deadline, I couldn't consider this a true success. I realized that I needed to create a more reliable process to prevent such situations from recurring ๐ฑ.
To address this issue, I invested in a powerful desktop PC ๐ป that could complete the same data load in just 90 minutes โ an astounding 37x improvement ๐. While the computer was a significant investment, the reliability and peace of mind it has provided are priceless ๐.
This experience has reinforced the importance of balancing personal and professional priorities ๐งโโ๏ธ while continually seeking improvement. I am committed to building a business that is both reliable and conducive to a healthy work-life balance ๐. I'm grateful for the lessons learned and am excited to continue moving forward with renewed vigor ๐ช.
